Laser Hair Removal in NYC

Summer is rapidly approaching and it is time to make sure we are looking good for the beach. One of the most troublesome beauty issues for women in the summertime is the removal of unwanted facial and body hair. Fortunately, laser hair removal treatments are widely available in the NYC area to address this common beauty dilemma.
Laser hair removal is a great alternative to traditional hair removal methods such as tweezing, shaving, waxing, and depilatories. It provides permanent hair removal without the mess, odor, and frequency required by other methods. It’s fast, easy, and gives a woman confidence when she is well groomed without having to worry about daily maintenance. Laser hair removal sessions are done in our NYC clinic in as little as 5 to 10 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated. Larger areas may take a little longer. Because they can be done so quickly, laser hair removal treatments are often touted as “lunch time procedures”.
Just what are laser hair removal treatments and how do they work? Our NY licensed laser hair removal specialist will use pulse of light to target the hairs’ roots and destroy the follicle from your desired body area. The laser focuses on the pigment or melanin in the root of the hair and a pulse is delivered which destroys the follicle. This prevents new hair from growing back in. The treatment has been around since the 1990’s in the U.S. Because hair grows in stages clients may need several sessions to remove all of the unwanted hair. Treatments can be repeated in 4-6 weeks.
Prior to treatment, clients are advised to avoid plucking, waxing, or electrolysis for 6 weeks before the procedure. This is because these activities remove the hairs’ roots and will make laser hair removal ineffective. Sun exposure should also be avoided to reduce any complications and ensure the effectiveness of the treatment.
During the treatment in our NYC clinic, the hair will be trimmed and the lasers adjusted to the client’s needs. The client may need to put on protective eyewear to shield their eyes from the light pulses. Outer layers of the skin will be protected as well using a cooling gel or device. This will also assist the laser in penetrating the skin. The technician will adjust the lasers settings for the individual client as appropriate for their unique skin tone and hair color, and begin the treatment.
After the treatment there may be some redness or irritation. Discomfort can be minimized with ice packs or topical anti-inflammatory creams provided by the technician. If discomfort continues past 24 hours it may be advisable call the technician, but it will usually go away on its own.
During the next few weeks our NYC clients will notice a reduction in hair growth and the need for maintenance. They are encouraged to exfoliate regularly to aid in the shedding of the hairs that have been destroyed at the root. Additionally they should avoid tweezing, plucking, or waxing any news hair growing in so that those roots remain intact for the next treatment. Shaving is best for hair removal between treatments.
